Nursery

Nursery Program (6 months to 2 years old)

The first three years of life are crucial for healthy physical and emotional development of children.

Our program in the Nursery focuses on creating a safe, nurturing and engaging environment for all the children to feel valued, cared for, and appreciated for who they are as they reach their milestones.

The Nursery program is play-based and focuses on supporting children's emerging sense of identity and wellbeing. This is achieved through a variety of activities and experiences for the children to explore, engage in and grow through.

Painting, sensory play, crafts, reading, action songs and dramatic play are a few examples of what is on offer every day for the children. With the help of our families, we also enjoy incorporating and celebrating the many languages, cultures and traditions in our program so that each child can grow proud of their own heritage and of their identity as Australian.

Auslan (Australia sign Language) is incorporated into all our interactions with the children. This helps them communicate their needs and wants more easily and effectively while their oral skills are developing. Auslan supports children's sense of wellbeing, independence and resilience as they feel heard and understood.

Orientation

We offer a gradual orientation period for children and families to familiarise themselves with the Nursery environment and the Educators.

We use this time to understand the routine, preferences and needs of each child, as well as their home life.

At Kanooka we believe that parents/carers are children's first educators and, therefore, providing continuity with their home environment is important to achieve a smooth transition into care.

Routines

Each child's individual routine is followed and, at the same time, interwoven into the overall daily rhythm of the Nursery.

The routine of the Nursery is based on play time, meals and rest.
